Common Best Management Practices

erosion control fence Silt fence and stabilized construction entrances are two commonly used best management practices (BMPs).

The Illinois Urban Manual is a great resource for the planning, designing & construction of Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce stormwater pollution, especially from construction sites. Several commonly used BMPs include:

  • Concrete Washout Area
  • Filter Strip- Grassed
  • Inlet Protection
  • Silt Fence
  • Stabilized Construction Entrance

Of course, every site is different and presents unique challenges. A list of all standard drawings for BMPs can located here: http://www.aiswcd.org/IUM/listdraw.html#Alphabetical
